Our Christmas baking

When I think back to my childhood, I always remember the pre-Christmas period and Christmas very well. When I think about it, it has always been my favorite time of the year. Being at home, with the delightful smell of nuts, fir trees, candles and of course, freshly baked Christmas biscuits.

Every year, our kitchen turned into a huge Christmas bakery where my mother, sister and I started the annual production. We baked countless sheets of biscuits, but all of them were eaten as fast as lightning by magic. One thing was certain: not a single Christmas cookie survived the Christmas holidays in our house.
We did not bake the same cookies every year. However, only one recipe stayed in our Christmas bakery every year: the snowflakes

Even today, the snowflakes are my absolute favorite Christmas cookies and therefore I do want to share the recipe with you - have fun trying it out!

Ingredients (for about 60 biscuits):

  • 250g of margarine
  • 130g of powdered sugar
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • 100g of flour
  • 250g of cornstarch
  • 50g of ground almonds
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla flavor

Put the margarine, 100 grams of the powdered sugar, the vanilla sugar and flavor into a bowl and massage until creamy. Spill the flour and the cornstarch over it. Then add the grounded almonds. Form hazelnut-sized balls with the dough, place on top a cooking paper on the backing tray. Gently flatten the balls with a fork and bake them at 180 ° C for 20 minutes.
Allow the snowflakes to slightly cool down and sprinkle them with the remaining powdered sugar.
